About Me

Rebecca Pollard

This picture is like four years old, but it's my favorite.

Hmm.. what do you really want to know? I’ve been thinking about re-doing this page for awhile now, but I just wasn’t sure what to tell you. Prior to the change, I had shown you pictures of shoes that reflected different parts of my life. I intend on keeping those photos here for you to see, but I decided that it would be more important to tell you a little bit about me and why I love fashion – shoes in particular.

I recently watched a Lady Gaga special where she was interviewed by Jean-Paul Gaultier. In this interview, she discussed that she enjoyed being able to constantly change who she is. That her extreme outfits were not publicity stunts or a cry for attention, but more a reflection of herself and her personalities. I loved that she said that in the interview because that’s exactly how I feel. Fashion is ever-changing, but the beauty lies in how different statement pieces express a part of who you are – sometimes even bring out a side of you that you didn’t know you had. Shoes do that for me. I could wear the same jeans and tee-shirt every day and change only my shoes to reflect my personality, my emotion, my life. Shoes are enough for me.

So how did I get into this fashionable addiction of sorts? This blog has helped me to reflect on that. I ask myself these questions… how did I get here? When did I start liking shoes so much? When did fashion become a part of who I am?

I don’t have the exact answer. There was no “there was this one time… yada yada… and it hit me.” It certainly has been progressive. Growing up, I didn’t have a lot of exposure to high fashion or designer clothing. My first memory of having an interest in fashion was when I saw Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. I fell in love with her thigh high hooker boots – something I’m sure my father hated at the time (although he got me my first pair for Christmas one year). And then, there was that scene where she got to go shopping on Rodeo Drive, and it made me so excited. To this day, that movie is still my all time favorite.

My older cousin was a model, and I think it was her fashion sense that started peeking my interest. I always felt as though she was so fabulous, in the Sex And The City kind of way. Designer clothing, awesome shoes, great purses – I envied her, and still do actually. She has amazing style.

When I was 16, I decided I wanted to go to modeling school – Barbizon! So, that was fun, but it didn’t really lead anywhere. Then, when I was in college, I met a woman photographer who owned this huge warehouse, and she was turning it into an arts center… The Fortress of the Arts! I got to do some workshop modeling there, and ended up being her assistant for a short period of time. That was fun, and I enjoyed networking with the models and photographers and also getting creative with developing the sets.

Journalism. Magazines. TV. Music. They’ve all played a part in developing my sense of fashion. My shoes have just been a part of the ride, but this blog is my tribute to my own personal style and interests. It is also giving me the opportunity to really educate myself on designers, design groups, magazines, celebrities. Fashion is beautiful, and every design or line has its own purpose. I admire everyone working in the fashion industry because they are so passionate about what they are doing. They absolutely love, adore, breathe fashion and all of its entities.

So that’s it in a nutshell. Have questions? Just ask!

Baby Shoes Socks

These are adorable baby socks that look like shoes because babies that small shouldn't wear shoes... and I totally bought some when my son was born! He's two now and they don't fit anymore :( But now we get to buy him real shoes which is lots of fun!

Dog Wearing Shoes

I used to work as a Buyer for an online pet food company. Yup, that's a dog wearing shoes. Enough said.
